25 Years of Secure Service

Celebrating 25 years of service in 2008, Secure Sentinel now provides global peace of mind for more than 650,000 members.

In its quarter century of operation, the company’s customer database security has never been compromised – a fine achievement by any standard in the Internet era.

At a gala reception on 14 March, call centre staff, credit card company partners and select customers celebrated the 25 year milestone with live jazz, dancing and fine food in the Sydney Opera House.
Fahrena Mitchelson, National Manager, Secure Sentinel, said: “We’re very proud of our achievements, especially the work we do helping thousands of customers each year during difficult times. At our event in March, our very first customers, Mr and Mrs Bowden, who joined in 1983, said that while no one buys cover for their valuable possessions expecting to lose them, it’s reassuring knowing help to recover or replace them is available 24-hours.”

In 1983, the year the Bowdens became the first Secure Sentinel members together, tennis great Bjorn Borg announced his retirement after winning five consecutive Wimbledons, Australia II sailed to America’s Cup victory, Return of the Jedi topped the cinema box office and Motorola released the first consumer mobile phone.

“In Secure Sentinel’s early days, most Australians had never seen a mobile phone, let alone thought about why they would cover for one in case of loss,” notes Fahrena Mitchelson. “The company handled a much larger number of reports for lost passports in the 1980s. Last year, by comparison, we answered more than 5,000 calls from members, involving nearly 35,000 financial cards and requests to put a block on 6,500 mobile phones. Technology and financial services are always evolving – our commitment to uncompromised security and excellent service will always be strong.”
